Chartered Banker MBA

The Chartered Banker MBA (CBMBA) is a prestigious programme from Bangor University (UK) and is the only qualification in the world that combines a Master of Business Administration with Chartered Banker status. The professional designation is awarded by the Chartered Banker Institute and is regarded as the gold standard for professionals in the financial services sector.
The CBMBA integrates academic insight with real-world application, developing strategic and leadership capabilities while embedding ethical, responsible, and sustainable banking practices. It is ideally suited to professionals aspiring to executive roles or career progression within financial services.

Delivered exclusively via distance learning, the programme offers maximum flexibility. Participants can choose to engage in live, interactive online seminars or study independently through recorded lectures, detailed study guides, and access to Bangor University’s comprehensive eLibrary.

Intakes are in April and October. Fees for 2025/26 range from GBP £13,100 to £20,500, with scholarships and instalment plans supported.

Applicants with relevant postgraduate or professional qualifications may qualify for an Accelerated Route that can range from 12 to 18 months and requires fewer modules by demonstrating prior achievement of the learning outcomes at a recognised institution.

Completion of the Chartered Banker by Experience, Postgraduate Certificate in Bank Management & Technology, Credit Skills Academy Advanced Level and selected postgraduate modules may provide advanced standing towards the Chartered Banker MBA.

Chartered Banker by Experience (CBbE)
The Chartered Banker by Experience (CBbE) is designed for experienced banking professionals with at least ten years of business experience, including a minimum of five years in banking and financial services.
The programme is deliberately challenging and intensive, with most candidates completing it within twelve weeks while balancing demanding professional and personal commitments. It provides an opportunity for participants to reflect on their competence, expertise, and contribution to banking, while also considering how their career and professional development can be shaped by gaining Chartered Banker status.
Qualification Overview
Chartered Banker by Experience is the flexible, accelerated yet rigorous route to Chartered Banker designed for experienced banking professionals. Following pre-entry screening to ensure the suitability of candidates, there are three steps to complete to become a Chartered Banker:
Step 1: Critical Self-Evaluation, where candidates reflect on their experience, expertise and professional practice
Step 2: Professional Ethics Assignment
Step 3: Presentation and Professional Discussion
Qualification Fees
The Chartered Banker by Experience qualification costs £2,495. Assessment resits cost £100.
In order to complete Chartered Banker by Experience, you must become a member of the Institute. An annual subscription fee of £75 will become payable upon registration.
Individuals are provided with 12 months to complete this qualification. If you wish to extend this period, you will incur a fee of £500.
Members will receive both a paper certificate and a digital certificate for this qualification.
Becoming a Chartered Banker
Successfully completing the Chartered Banker by Experience qualification means you will become a Chartered Banker, join the rapidly growing Chartered Banker Institute of more than 35,000 members, and be eligible to use the ‘Chartered Banker’ designation for as long as you continue to meet the Institute’s ongoing requirements. In brief, these are to:
- Make an annual commitment to follow the Chartered Banker Code of Professional Conduct;
- Complete and record a minimum of 35 hours of continuing professional development (CPD) each year; and
-Remain a member of the Institute in good standing.
Chartered Banker membership is currently £210 per year.

Postgraduate Certificate in Bank Management & Technology
The Postgraduate Certificate in Bank Management and Technology (CertBMT) is for banking and financial services professionals who wish to improve their practical understanding of bank management and technology.
Delivered by Bangor University (UK) via distance learning for working professionals, the dual award programme is offered in partnership with Chartered Banker Institute - the only banking institute in the world which can confer the Chartered Banker (MCBI) designation - a hallmark of excellence for all those within the financial services profession.
This programme introduces and develops understanding of the key aspects of finance, banking and technology in an international and dynamic setting. You will achieve a reflective and ethical command of core professional, practical and future orientated elements of modern banking. This will cultivate professional judgement, ethical awareness and an analytical approach to problem-solving in a banking and financial services context.
There are two intakes a year, in April and October. The fee for the CertBMT in the 2025/26 Academic Year is GBP £6,850 and instalments plans are supported.

Postgraduate Modules

Study single or multiple postgraduate modules to enhance professional expertise or support in-house training and organisational development. Candidates are awarded postgraduate credits for each module successfully completed, which may later be applied towards masters programmes where modules form part of the curriculum. Studying a single module also provides an effective way to trial a programme before committing to full postgraduate study.
Delivered by Bangor University (UK) via distance learning and designed for working professionals, modules run over a 6-month semester, with intakes available in April and October. Postgraduate modules are available for standalone study or as part of progression towards the Chartered Banker MBA and other postgraduate programmes.
15 Credit Postgraduate Modules are offered at standalone study at a cost of £1,700.
